Measure the total length along the fence line. Most backyards are 120–200 ft.

150 ft

6 ft is the standard backyard privacy height in San Diego. Over 6 ft usually needs a permit.

3 ft–4 ft single gates, matched to fence material.

10–14 ft double-swing gates for driveway access.

How this calculator works

The numbers are based on our 2026 installed pricing across San Diego County. Material cost, labor cost, concrete footings (30–36 in with 3,000-psi crowned concrete), stainless or hot-dip galvanized hardware, and standard permit handling are all factored in.

Not factored: hillside terrain, rock or hardpan removal, re-grading for uneven fence lines, moving irrigation, or HOA-specific finish upgrades. Those show up in the written estimate. They usually add 10–25% on jobs that need them.

The range we show reflects the real spread between a basic-spec install and a coastal or premium-spec install at the same length and material. We lean toward the middle of the range on most quotes.
