What do homeowners ask about Wood Fence?

Cedar vs redwood vs pressure-treated pine, which is best?

Cedar is the sweet spot for most San Diego yards, $45–$55/linear foot installed, 15–20 year lifespan with sealing, beautiful natural color. Heart redwood is premium at $55–$70/linear foot, lasts 18–25 years. Pressure-treated pine is cheapest at $32–$42/linear foot but checks and cups in inland heat, we don't recommend it east of I-5.

How tall can my wood fence be?

San Diego residential backyards typically allow up to 6 feet without a permit. Front yards are usually capped at 3 or 4 feet. 7 or 8 feet may require a permit and setback review. HOAs often have stricter limits. We confirm with the jurisdiction before quoting.

Do I need to stain my new fence?

Not immediately, wait 30 to 60 days for the wood to dry. After that, a penetrating oil-based stain doubles the fence's lifespan, especially inland. Re-stain every 2–3 years. We can stain at install time for an extra $2.50–$4.00 per linear foot.

What's the difference between board-on-board and solid-board fence?

Solid-board (also called privacy) has pickets butted tight. Board-on-board alternates pickets front and back, overlapping about an inch, no sight lines through gaps even as wood shrinks. Board-on-board costs 10–15% more and looks cleaner from both sides.

Got three quotes for a new cedar fence. Fence Pros was the only company that actually walked the whole line, pulled the HOA spec, and showed me a stain sample before quoting. Clean crew, clean jobsite, beautiful finish.

Cedar Privacy Fence Install Carlsbad

Our 12-year-old fence was leaning bad and I thought we needed a full replacement. They installed steel post inserts on six posts, saved the panels, and the fence looks great for another decade. Saved me thousands.

Fence Post Repair El Cajon

Needed a code-compliant pool fence before our home sale. They came out same-week, quoted honestly, and installed glass panel fencing that passed inspection on the first try. Handled everything, measurement, hardware, final walk-through.
