Ask the bid to name gauge or wall thickness, whether the steel is pre-galvanized, how welds are cleaned, and the finish system. “Iron fence panels” from a catalog still need those notes if you want two bids to match.

Prefabricated panels suit simple lots. Custom work suits odd grades, matching an existing gate, or heavy scrollwork. Neither is a price in this article.
Pairing iron with walls, hedges, and gates
A low stucco or CMU wall with iron above is common. C-13 excludes masonry walls. Name the masonry contractor. Posts in a wall need a written embedment and seal note so water does not sit in the wall.
