Look for frame strength, hinge or roller hardware that resists lifting, a lock that is not a light latch, and posts that match the leaf weight. Height and spear tops are deterrents. They are also design rules in some yards. Confirm height with the same desk that reviews the fence.
Automation adds a motor, sensors, and usually electrical work. A motor that can be forced by hand without a documented override plan is a weak point. Installation quality is part of the system. Material choices: steel vs. iron vs. solid wood
Steel. Strong for the weight, easy to detail with tight pickets or spears, and common on both houses and commercial drives. Finish and hardware decide how it ages near the marine layer. Ask for surface prep, coating system, and stainless or otherwise named fasteners.
